His colleagues at the Fine Arts Center were among his best friends. Rice is survived by a sister, Michele Reeves a brother, Jeffrey Rice and his beloved niece and nephew, Cameron and Christian Reeves. His love for music, languages, and travel took him from Bangkok to Bucharest, Reykjavik to Rarotonga, and Easter Island to Egypt.

He dedicated three decades to the education of young singers as voice teacher at the Fine Arts Center of Greenville County Schools. For twenty years he was a tenor soloist at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed fourteen years as accompanist for the Greenville Chorale. While a graduate student at Northwestern University, he sang with the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Rice and Clifford Rice Jr., he was a proud alumnus of Parker High School and Furman University.
